This May, DJ Drama [click to read] and Atlantic Records will release the sequel to Gangsta Grillz: The Album [click to read].

After Hip Hop purists were dazzled by the OutKast [click to read] reunion “The Art of Storytelling, Part 4” on the last album, HipHopDX asked the Aphilliates‘ star deejay what lyrical treats this next volume has in store. “I got a song that I just [started] premiering recently, with Ludacris [click to read], Busta Rhymes [click to read] and Willie Da Kid, called ‘My People Will Be Heard,’ Drama told DX yesterday afternoon. “The lyricists’ fans that love Gangsta Grillz for their quality Hip Hop music, will really appreciate the fact that Nas is on this album. Scarface [click to read] is on this album. Fabolous [click to read] is on this album. So of course I keep my core lyricists [around], and keep those fans attached to the system.

Arguably the premier mainstream mixtape deejay, Drama was asked if he feels slighted that his albums aren’t treated like many artist’s works. “We live in a different climate, a different time. I’m still able to be out here and work consistently, and travel [while] people still appreciate my music. I still put out product. In a sense, it just makes me more hungry, just to keep goin’ and tryin’ to keep provin’ [myself]. I enjoy that back-against-the-wall mentality. ‘Okay, this wasn’t good enough?’ Boom, here’s another one. I’m goin’ right back at it. I like the grind.

With B.G., 8Ball & MJG, Killer Mike, B.o.B. and Young LA projects all developing at Drama‘s Grand Hustle Records home, the deejay said he’ll be doing some A&R consulting. “I’ma have my hands in the projects and be able to put some A&R work in, and it’s exciting to have that much talent going on over there.

In addition to recent tapes with La The Darkman and Soulja Boy, DJ Drama will also be working with fellow Philadelphia native and recent Grand Hustle artist Meek Millz. “He has a name and a brand, and he’s got the streets behind him in Philly, so it’s basically about just getting him in that national exposure.
