Update: Kanye West's Mother Dies After "Cosmetic Procedure"
The mother of Kanye West, Dr. Donda West, died this weekend as previously reported.
According to her publicist, Ms. West died following a "cosmetic procedure."
The publicist, Patricia Green, did not give details about the nature of the procedure or what the exact cause of death was.
West died at the age of 58 which, according to CNN, was confirmed by an Island Def Jam representative, who also said "the family respectfully asks for privacy during this time of grief."
Ms. West was the focus of Kanye's song Hey Mama, which appeared on his 2005 album Late Registration. She also co-authored a book earlier this year titled Raising Kanye: Life Lessons From the Mother of a Hip Hop Superstar.
Fellow rapper and friend Rhymefest commented on the tragedy by saying "She was everyone's mom...A spirit never dies, a spirit lasts forever."
