The inspiration behind "Hey Mama" dies suddenly due to unknown causes in Los Angeles.
Donda West, mother of Kanye, has been reported dead. Although reason for death has yet to be confirmed, the report happened on November 10 in the Los Angeles area.
Dr. West, 58, had gained increased exposure through her son's rise to stardom. Earlier this year she published Raising Kanye, a memoir on her relationship with her son in his childhood. The book was published in May by Simon & Shuster. The campaign led to appearances on Oprah and The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
A recently retired professor of English at Chicago State University after over 30 years, West served as a manager to her son in later years. She remained a pillar of support through Kanye's moments of controversy, defending his bold character. Kanye's take on his mother was chronicled on "Hey Mama," a cult-appreciated song on Late Registration that described the support, the love and the reciprocation that came through fame and wealth.
Kanye West is presently on tour in Europe, and has reportedly just gotten the troubling news today. He has yet to comment publicly.
HipHopDX sends our condolences to the family and friends of Dr. West. Please stay tuned for more information as its made available.
