HipHopDX Premiere: Beginning with a larger-than-life shot of Biggie Smalls, Otis Clapp’s new video for “Demons Into Diamonds” finds the rapper hitting the boxing ring delivering his verses blow by blow. Produced by 20th Letter, the song is taken from Clapp’s latest project, the Heller Keller EP. Tackling alcoholism, domestic violence and unrealized dreams, the Ryan Windess-directed video was an official selection of the 8th Annual NYC Independent Film Festival in 2017.

“As someone who’s been training in the art of boxing for over seven years, the Rocky intro set the tone for the song’s inspiring and powerful message,” Windess tells HipHopDX. “Otis’ words followed, and began to inspire and develop a music video narrative about a young man’s struggles at home and how he uses boxing to overcome. His ‘demons into diamonds’ transformation.

“Being friends with Otis, he allowed me to have creative control of the project,” he adds. “I then storyboarded, rallied up the troops, shot, edited and made the deadline for submissions to the NYC Independent Film Festival. They officially selected and it made its debut at Hell’s Kitchen following a killer live performance by the rapper himself.”
