HipHopDX Premiere: St. Louis, Missouri native Bates — the 2016 St. Louis Underground Artist of the Year — has dropped a new visual for “A Date With Lisa,” which bursts with her lyrical prowess and high energy execution. Shot by Imagine You Media, the video takes places on a wild bus ride, where Bates’ love for the craft takes centerstage.

Taken from her forthcoming album, Strange Woman, “A Date With Lisa” is produced by True On Tha Trac and finds Bates rapping about a fictional date with Lisa (played by Shari Headly) from the Eddie Murphy film Coming To America in a way that’s so explosive, you have to listen.

Bates has been navigating her way through the indie music scene for years and earned an award for ‘Best Female Artist of The Year’ at the 2015 St. Louis Underground Music Festival (SLUMFest). In 2016, Bates swept the local music awards, winning Best Video for her visual “Tell Jesus” and Best Female Hip Hop Artist. She also became the first woman to take home Artist of the Year in its award history. This flood of affirmation led to the success of her 2016 album, For Colored Folk.
