Netflix has released a four-part documentary series titled Hip Hop Evolution, which traces the origins of Hip Hop culture back to the Bronx where it all began. Hosted by Canadian MC Shad, the first episode, “The Foundation,” features interviews with Hip Hop forefathers such as Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash, Kurtis Blow, Afrika Bambaataa, LL Cool J, and Coke La Rock.

Episode 2, “From The Underground To The Mainstream,” focuses on Hip Hop’s rise to notoriety while Episode 3, “The New Guard,” finds Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin explaining the rise of Hip Hop’s first empire, Def Jam. Finally, Episode 4, “The Birth of Gangsta Rap” dives into the birth of N.W.A with interviews from Chuck D, Ice Cube, Ice-T and more.
