T.I. said: “You listen to first generation of trap music, people like me, Jeezy, Yo Gotti, you know what I’m saying? We were rapping about things we had done, got away with, and moved on. You hear me? You listen to [this] new age trap music? Oh, they talkin’ bout shit they finna do tomorrow, you feel what I’m saying?”

The stand-up routine reflected opinions T.I. has shared elsewhere about the current state of Hip Hop.

Speaking to Shaquille O’Neal on his Big podcast. Tip said: “This generation reminds me of every other generation. You got some people who are exceptionally dope, and some people who are just alright. You know what I mean? But it’s a lot more of it to choose from now.

“I feel that, actually, what they’ve done with music is equivalent to if they were to open up the doors of the arena and say, ‘Anybody think you can play basketball? Come on out the stands out here to the floor. Here you go, a jersey, man. Get in the game.'”

Despite his own children following in his footsteps into Hip Hop, T.I. said that he originally wanted them to pursue different careers.

“I never really wanted them involved,” he said. “I just know how much treachery, how much betrayal and how much of the dark side that exists in this, and I never wanted to expose them to that.

“I wanted one of my kids to dive into real estate. Also I think it’s not enough lawyers, doctors, engineers, architects … coming from our households. We got a thousand rappers, producers, DJs, models, actors — not that there’s anything wrong with any of this.

“But for us to evolve the way that I envision us evolving, I just feel like we need more Thurgood Marshalls, we need more Ben Crumps. We need more than just entertainment. We can’t just entertain our way out of the slump that we’re in.”
