Saweetie has taken issue with a publication that twisted her words and turned it into a false narrative.

On Saturday (March 2), the Bay Area rapper retweeted a since-deleted post by MyMixtapes that read: “Saweetie says her debut album has been significantly delayed, not because she doesn’t care about making music, but because she feels no one cares about her music.”

“who paying yall?” she captioned the reshare, along with a screenshot of the original quote and excerpt from her recent cover story for Allurethat read: “‘I just feel like nobody was caring about my music,’ Saweetie says of the people around her at that time. ‘To me, music is sacred.’”

She followed the above post with a few more comments, adding “getting invoiced to run false news is wild” and “it’s giving….. obsessed.”

Saweetie’s conversation with Allure was centered on her new single “Richtivities” and her journey to stardom since her 2018 debut, which included some “lazy” marketing ideas from music execs to keep her buzz going at the time.

“I was told I should twerk more on my Instagram,” she said. “I was told that my voice was very boring. I was told that I rapped too monotone and needed more energy. I was told that I needed to share more of my life on the internet.”

The 30-year-old continued: “I’m going to twerk when I want to. That’s not going to be my marketing. And if that’s what you truly love to do, then empower yourself through that. But that’s not innate to me.

“If I get caught at a party or if I’m turning up, okay, cool. But I’m not finna do that because you guys think I should. That’s lazy marketing.”

Though not much has changed in terms of her marketing plans, Saweetie is remaining true to her artistry above all else.

“Everything now just feels like, ‘Make it go viral, go viral, go viral,’” she added. “Okay, cool, go viral. But if your only intention is numbers, what about the art or the reason why we’re here today?”
