Last April, Chance The Rapper took his indie gloating a little too far and attacked major labels, including Aftermath Entertainment. Now, the “No Problem” MC has apologized for his actions.

Chance specifically expressed regret for the disrespect he showed to Dr. Dre and Aftermath. The proud independent artist issued an apology on Thursday (June 22) via Twitter.

“I want to formally apologize to Dr Dre, and all of Aftermath for publicly disrespecting their hard work and contributions to music,” he tweeted.

The show in question took place in San Diego and featured a giant video screen flashing parodies of popular major labels. Sony turned into Phony, Def Jam Recordings to Don’t Join Records and Aftermath Entertainment to Can’t Do Math Entertainment.

Chance fully intended to mock major labels, but the insults ended up targeting an artist-run imprint in Aftermath as well. The Grammy Award winner now views this as a mistake.

“When I went on the Be Encouraged tour I made LED content to satirize and degrade major labels,” Chance wrote. “I made the mistake of including Imprints which not only dulled my overall point of trying to uplift artist but also singled out artist-owned ventures that have only worked to progress the culture.”

Chance capped off the string of tweets by praising the various ventures and artists developed by Dre over the producer’s storied career. He also reiterated his apology and emphasized his error.

“Dre is a premier example of creating space for wealth and ownership in an industry designed for creatives to be the foot soldiers,” he wrote. “His work with Beats, Compton Schools and artist like Kendrick, Game, Eminem, .Paak, 50 NWA and others is unmatched and how i inspire to be. I set out to empower and I completely missed the ball and I know that now, once again Sorry to Dre, all the artists/producers at Aftermath and all the other folk trying to make a difference in music that I belittled.”
