Compton, CA

Dr. Dre has reportedly agreed to donate $10 million dollars to the new Compton High School in order to help build a performing arts complex.

The LA Times says the Compton Unified School District confirmed the Hip Hop legend’s massive contribution to the school’s arts program on Thursday (June 15).

In a statement to the Times, the Hip Hop mogul said: “My goal is to provide kids with the kind of tools and learning they deserve. The performing arts center will be a place for young people to be creative in a way that will help further their education and positively define their future.”

Compton is famously a part of Dre’s history. Dre first broke into Hip Hop as part of N.W.A, whose song “Straight Outta Compton” is still regarded as one of Hip Hop’s most iconic and best known tracks today.

Dre was praised for his efforts in helping the school. Satra Zurita, President of Compton Unified’s governing board of trustees said, “The support that Dre has shown to Compton over the years is unwavering and we are so excited that we will now be home to one of the greatest performing arts centers in the country.”

Dre will also be involved in raising further funds in order to complete the center. Work is expected to begin on the complex in 2020.
