Highlighted in the Thursday (May 11) version of the DX Digest, we hear “Somethin Tells Me,” “Honey” and “Get Mine,” featuring Young Thug. Additionally, Diplo calls the cavalry on “Bank Roll,” a song featuring verses from Justin Bieber, Thugger, and Rich The Kid. Never one to deviate from his pocket of songs for and about women, Bryson Tiller shows us an improved pen game on “Somethin Tells Me” – a song where he forecasts the untimely demise of his relationship. Like you and I know, it’s a cold world, and Pen Griffey’s intuition tells him that his past transgressions and other issues will be the end of his love.

Pulsating trap “soul rhythm and blues with a slap to it” defines the braggadocious “Get Mine” record from Bryson Tiller. The Kentucky singer-songwriter forewarns haters trying to impede him from getting paid, ultimately taking money out of his daughter’s mouth. Meanwhile, Thug just wants a chicken cheesesteak. Go figure.

Diplo f. Justin Bieber, Rich the Kid & Young Thug – “Bankroll”
So, Biebervelli, Thugger, and Rich the Kid all walk into a bar. Well, that isn’t the case, but the trio do spit some bars on the same track, and we have super-producer Diplo to thank for that. The maestro of sonics has been teasing “Bankroll” for over a year. Thankfully it doesn’t disappoint, as Young Thug is the clear frontrunner, though Justin Bieber’s lyrical exploits are sure to get the Internets talking. Diplo, Boaz and King Henry handle the trap-influenced production.

Nas Recreates 1920s Blues song W/ Jack Black
Nas is no stranger to bridging the gap (ha!) between generations. From the Jazz influences on his seminal debut album Illmatic to his collaborative album with Damian Marley, we’ve seen the Queensbridge-bred MC channel past and present cultures in a tasteful way. He does so again with the help of guitarist Jack Black. The twosome put their spin on Memphis Jug Band’s 1928 blues song “On the Road Again” in a clip from PBS’ American Epic documentary.

Danny Brown – “Kool Aid”
Not sure if anyone out there is familiar with the idiom, “all in the Kool-Aid, but don’t know the flavor,” but it’s essentially an order to mind your business. Danny Brown instructs folks to do the same on “Kool Aid,” a song where he can be heard saying “get out my mix.” Produced by Skywlkr, expect this raucous tune to appear on the soundtrack for the HBO series Silicon Valley and on this Sunday’s (May 14) episode.

With 40 songs slated to appear on his upcoming double album, Heartbreak on A Full Moon, Chris Brown unleashed a heartfelt freebie track that shows he has more material where that comes from. Titled “Die Young,” the song features Nas and is dedicated to late wordsmith Chinx (this song remixes “Die Young” from his posthumously released Welcome to JFK), and anyone who saw an early death in the streets.

YFN Lucci has been on a hot streak, releasing a prolific amount of anthems the streets have gravitated to over the last few years. The song shines because of a chorus by Lucci and PnB Rock that’s written in a way that almost feels like a mnemonic device.

Drake’s “Passion Fruit” teeters the line of calming elevator music and a club friendly groove, which means it sonically appeases just about everyone. And that includes Wiz Khalifa apparently. The Taylor Gang founder repurposes the song into a proper celebration of his favorite pastime: Khalifa Kush.
