This week in Hip Hop, Meek Mill and Nicki Minaj breakup rumors went into full over-drive. Cee Lo’s phone fake-blew up in his face and elsewhere, Eminem trolled the internet with a “new” song.

Meek Mill & Nicki Minaj Breakup Rumors

Not to steal the spotlight from Blac Chyna and Rob Kardashian, Meek Mill and Nicki Minaj did the most breaking-up-iest thing to do on social media this week — unfollow each other on social media (gasp!). Not only that, Meek posted a racy pic of some thick chick that was identified as a boutique owner that he’s been cashing out for quite some time, according to Bossip, but then not, according to theJasmineBRAND.

Then come rumors that Nicki had moved on to Fetty Wap, which turned out to be nothing more than rumors.

To further solidify the ongoing rumors of a breakup that have yet to be confirmed, the couple that usually shares the stage together since she brought him on her world tour, will be performing separately on New Years Eve in Miami.

Cee Lo’s Phone Explodes

Samsung phones blowing up has been all over the news this year, but then “security video footage” popped up of Cee Lo’s phone blowing up in his face, leaving him motionless on the floor before the clip conveniently ended.

Concerned fans hoped for Cee Lo’s recovery, while some entertained Samsung versus iPhone  debates and others made light of the situation with funny gifs. Cee Lo eventually let everyone know that this was a big fat hoax. Well, actually, it’s supposed to be part of some twisted marketing technique for his upcoming film project, Gnarly Davidson.

He made an appearance on Shade 45’s Hanukkah Radio on December 20 with his manager Paul Rosenberg and DJ Whoo Kid, where he teased the song. Then joked about how it’ll be a huge record and all of that. Whether or not the record is really real isn’t confirmed but it isn’t that farfetched coming from Slim Shady.

DXclusives: George Clinton, Jay Pharoah & Post Malone

Interviewing with DX’s Ural Garrett, George Clinton praised Childish Gambino’s Awaken, My LoveIt was already getting mad comparisons (and criticisms) to Parliament, but that didn’t bother Clinton too much.

“I just heard it [Awaken, My Love] one time and I like the songs,” the music legend told DX. “I’m aware of his music and know he’s into P-Funk so I know it’s going to be some good music. I haven’t had a chance to get all the way into it. When I did hear it, it sounded like a cross between P-Funk and Prince influence. I’m proud that he’s into the funk and glad him and others are bringing some new funk back.”

No Nick Cannon bars from Jay Pharoah. The former SNL-er and stand-up comedian plans on taking his rap very serious. In an interview with DX’s Editor-In-Chief, Trent Clark, he takes the time to criticize Lil Yachty.

“These new wave rappers that came in? Until I saw that Sprite commercial … like, who that boy with the red hair?” he says. “Lil Yachty? Lil Thotty? Who is that? How the hell … I’m like, yo [laughs] … I’m looking at this … has he ever put out a mixtape? How did he get a Sprite commercial? Nigga, I put out a mixtape two years ago and I ain’t never been on Sprite! What’s happening? I need to yell at my agents real quick. Gotdang! Who is his agent? Shout out to him but you know what I’m saying [sings incoherent melodic gibberish]. What the fuck is this? What is this shit I’m listening to right now?”

Next, Post Malone lets everyone know that Kanye West was supposed to be on Stoney. But sadly, he wasn’t. That doesn’t mean the Texas rapper isn’t hopeful that it won’t happen in the near future, production-wise or otherwise.

“It’s coming,” he tells DX. “Shout to Ye. Love you baby.”

Post Malone was featured on West’s “Fade” off The Life of Pablo. As great as that song is, we can only imagine what another song with the two could have sounded like.
