On Wednesday night, worlds collided in the best way possible when Beyoncé took the stage at the Country Music Association Awards to perform her hit “Daddy Lessons” with country music legends the Dixie Chicks.

In a sad turn of events, many of CMA’s social media posts about the killer collaboration were greeted with racism and anger towards Beyoncé.

Many social media users noticed something strange happen last night (November 3) when it appeared as though all traces of Beyoncé’s performance had been removed from CMA’s social media platforms. Many drew the conclusion, rightly or wrongly, that this had been done in response to the racist abuse from supposed country music fans.

However, a spokesperson for CMA has said that no mentions of Beyoncé were removed — just one piece of promo that had not been approved by Beyoncé’s own team.

“In advance of the broadcast, CMA removed a five-second promotional clip from ABC.com and CMA’s Facebook page. The promo was unapproved and CMA removed it prior to the broadcast,” the spokesperson told BuzzFeed News.

“Beyoncé’s performance with Dixie Chicks was a highlight of the evening and we are continuing to share the amazing full-length performance clip via our official social channels.”

“Beyoncé’s team hadn’t approved that, so we pulled it down. Fans can get kind of passionate and read other things into it.”

The CMA seemingly has tried to get the Beyhive back on its side, and re-grammed a photo of Beyoncé and the Dixie Chick’s equipment…

But it seems as though, for many, the damage has already been done.
