Lil Yachty is in a lane of his own. However, the self-proclaimed “King of Teens” recently admitted to Billboard that he “honestly couldn’t name five songs” by Hip Hop icons Tupac Shakur or The Notorious B.I.G.

The rapper later added: “But if I’m doing this my way and making all this money, why should I do it how everybody says it’s supposed to be done?”

Despite not being able to reel off five songs by two of Hip Hop’s biggest stars, Lil Yachty has been on a winning streak as of late. He signed to the Atlanta-based indie label Quality Control back at the start of June and already this year has featured on two chart successes with D.R.A.M’s “BROCCOLI” and PartyNextDoor’s “Buzzin.”

“I’ve found myself,” Lil Yachty says. “I’m like the youth’s big brother now. I have to be that voice for them.”
