Jimmy Iovine says that he does not support music being available at no cost.

“Free is a real issue,Iovine said during the Vanity Fair New Establishment Summit in San Francisco today (October 7), per The Verge. “This whole thing about freemium, maybe at one time we needed it. But now it’s a shell game.

“These companies are building an audience on the back of the artist, he added.

Spotify is a music streaming service that offers a free streaming option. It also has a paid subscription offer.

In May 2014, it was reported that Iovine and Dr. Dre would have high-ranking posts at Apple following the company’s acquisition of the pair’s Beats Electronics company for $3 billion. Apple Music is Apple’s streaming service.
