“The idea behind every sound is different,” he says. “You look at David Bowie, Michael Jackson. There’s not two ‘Billie Jeans’ theres not two ‘Thrillers.’ Summertime ’06definitely has a different feel, different approach to it.”

Though the album is scheduled to be released June 30, Staples doesn’t seem settled on a date.

“We’re trying to correlate some special things in that album,” he says. “There’s no such thing as a single, no such thing as a release date. We’re letting the people pick…Everything means something. We’re not making music just for the fuck of it. We definitely got a lot of visuals coming.”
