Funk Flex has had enough of “Swag Surfin,” ripping into the Fast Life Yungstaz and their signature hit as he spun the track at this year’s Summer Jam afterparty.

Funk served as the lead DJ of the Hot 97 Summer Jam After Party at Capicu earlier this month, which also featured appearances from Coi Leray and Nick Scalici. As he dove into “Swag Surfin'” he needed to make it known that he didn’t personally approve of the song.

“I hate this fucking song,” Flex called out into the mic. “I hate this fucking song!”

“BLACK TEE SHIRT BANDIT?” He questioned in the caption. “AM I THE ONLY ONE THAT HATES THIS SONG? IS THIS THE BIGGEST CLUB SONG EVER?”

Despite Funk Flex’s loathing, “Swag Surfin” was eventually certified gold. The track debuted at No. 62 on the Billboard Hot 100 when it dropped in 2009, and peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot Rap Tracks.

The debut single off F.L.Y.’s debut album Jamboree, the song was previously sampled by Beyoncé for her Coachella performance Homecoming: The Live Album to introduce the song “Drunk In Love.” The track was also for a time synonymous with the Chicago Cubs locker room celebration from 2018 to 2019.

In an interview withHipHopDX last November, Run It Up Records CEO Citi Under Seige explained that the song became an anthem for Black colleges despite it never going No. 1.

“As soon as the beat drops every kid in the club jumps up,” he said of the first time he heard the single in a college bar. “I promise you the roof lifts off the club. It was the most magical music moment I’ve ever seen in my life.”
