Peter Gunz has received support from Fat Joe, Cam’ron and others after he announced that he had lost his mother and his cousin on the same day.

Gunz, who is best known for his 1997 hit “Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)” with Lord Tariq, shared the sad news on his Instagram on Wednesday (March 6).

Alongside a picture of his mother, the 55-year-old paid tribute to the woman that raised him.

“She gave me life and all the love a son could ever ask for. Rest well Mommy no more pain,” he wrote in a heartfelt message. “Truly appreciate all the love support and positive energy, thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

“To my family my nieces and nephews in particular keep that bond going. I love how you stepped up pulled together laughed cried and held each other down at this dark time. Words can’t describe how much I love you.”

In a separate post on his Instagram Stories, Gunz shared a picture of himself with his cousin and wrote: “Rest well Cousin Chuck you and mom leave on the same day… sad.”

Peter Gunz received a number of condolence messages from various figures in Hip Hop including Fat Joe who wrote: “God bless mama.”

Gunz’s ex-wife and Love & Hip Hop star Amina Butterfly also commented: “Thankful for her legacy and the way she impacted all of our lives with all the amazing humans that exist because of her.”

Lord Jamar also said: “My sympathy and condolences,” while Gillie Da Kid commented: “Love u brother.”

Peter Gunz’s mother was also the grandmother of former Young Money artist Cory Gunz, who is best known for his guest verse on Lil Wayne’s “6 Foot 7 Foot.”
