Drake has added yet another accolade to his extensive collection after seeing one of his songs surpass three billion Spotify streams.

Drizzy took to his Instagram Stories on Tuesday (February 20) to celebrate the achievement, sharing a text message from OVO Sound president Mr. Morgan informing him that “One Dance” has become his first track to reach the milestone.

Morgan also shared a story about the making of “One Dance,” revealing it was originally titled “High Powered.”

“One Dance is officially your first 3 billion stream single, the 7th ever on Spotify,” the executive wrote in his message to Drake.

“I remember walking into SOTA & your chalk board with the working track list for VIEWS, there was a song called ‘High Powered.’ I asked which it was & you said, ‘It’s an 85 beat I haven’t recorded yet…but it’s the single & it’s gone!'”

Along with the screenshot of Morgan’s text, Drake tagged the song’s guest vocalist, WizKid, along with producers Noah “40” Shebib and Nineteen85.

The achievement makes WizKid the first African artist to have a song with over three billion Spotify streams.

Only six other songs have racked up three billion streams on Spotify including The Weeknd‘s “Blinding Lights” and “Starboy,” Post Malone and Swae Lee‘s “Sunflower,” Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You,” Lewis Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved” and Harry Styles’ “As It Was.”

Released in 2016 as part of Drake’s Views album, “One Dance” reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100, marking the Toronto native’s first-ever No. 1 single on the chart as a lead artist.

Drizzy spoke about the success of “One Dance” and collaborating with WizKid during an interview with Rap Radar in 2019.

“I’m not one of those people that can be inspired by something and be like, ‘Ah, well that was inspiring, thanks,’ and then just move on with it under my arm running down the field,” he said.

“I gotta at least honor the person that handed me off the football before I ran for the touchdown. Because when I do things, they do get magnified and amplified, people can sometimes feel uncomfortable.”

He continued: “Like, ‘Oh okay, ‘One Dance’ goes No. 1 and now all of a sudden this is Afro inspired.’ But it’s like, yeah, WizKid was on the song with me. I had blessings from the real dons in that space. I know those guys, I link with those guys, I go to their shows, they come to my shows, they touch my stage.

“So it’s like, the chatter is one thing but in the community, amongst the real Gs that are really doing this shit, I’m solidified for sure.”

“One Dance” previously became the first song to reach one billion streams on Spotify in December 2016.
