vbulletin is pretty easy to manage, even for a n00b like me. 
I haven't tried any other ones though.
I like the new front page, although some more variety in colors would have been nice.

Yeah that's one reason I like it, plus the social aspects are nice. Would be a nice addon for here IMO.

yeah from a usable perspective it's much better.
i remember a bunch of use throwing in two cents about having the media player playing while switching pages and shit...and just yeah...the headlines and stuff cycling through without actual reloading the page.
but the visuals are awful in my opinion
black text on a white background is like presentation 101. hard on the eyes and shit.
and the gigantic fonts.
i remember how everyone said this green version fonts were way too small.
it just seems like everything is meant to stand out so much..so nothing does.

after a good day of use I'm noticing a few issues:
1. The article headlines overlap some of the picture (intentional?) and overlap the writer's name as well. Overall the titles seem to place themsleves wherever.
2. The video player overlaps the main tabs. Making the tabs unreadable.
3. A alot of articles in general haven't seems to transition well with the new look. I see netcode, HTML code from time to time, buggy formatting, etc.
I'm sure all of this is part of the roll-out.
I'm glad I don't have to deal with such a headache.
Design-wise : Egh, won't win any awards but liek others have mentioned usability has vastly improved. Not really diggin' the blog aesthetic, though.
The Black on white doesn't really bother me, bu teverythign still feels a little to cluttered. The front page is a clusterfuck of sections, tabs, ads, audio, video etc. I know DX has to display a lot of content in one area, but man, there has to be a away to clean that up.

Well yea, that's called stealing and I'm sure the labels wouldn't be cool if DX offered free downloads to thier properties. That is unless you wan't DX to start offering subscriptions for members to be able to DL shit.

Php is the common development language for Message Boards, there are plenty of already made free templates to get a message board up and running in no time. I've seen some great boards written in .NET, but its much more complicated
now why over vbulletin? I'd say for scalability purposes.

I see some posts on overlapping. This can some times be an issue with Internet Explorer 8. Has the site been tested with IE8?
