Miss Rap Supreme Castaways: Lady Twist

May 7th, 2008 | Author: Aliya Ewing

DX: There’s been a lot of drama in the house, especially between Byata and Chiba. And while it seems like everyone else has taken sides, you remained neutral. Were you just too focused on the competition to bother with them or is it just your nature to stay drama-free?
LT:
That’s just who I am. I was the person in high school who could kick it with [any] clique. Tell you the truth, I look back and realize that I probably didn’t get a lot of camera time on the show because I wasn’t fightin' and cussin’ and arguing with nobody. And there were times I thought maybe I should show my ass, but then I decided that everybody that knows me would know I was just actin’ a fool for the camera.

DX: Last week we spoke with Khia who believes that Serch and Yo-Yo didn’t pick women for the show based off of talent, but rather because of clashing personalities or girls with “issues” that would make for good TV. Do you agree with her views of the show?
LT:
I do and I don’t. I do because the girls they cast are bunch of damn fools [laughs], that’s for sure. But at the same time I thought that everybody in the house was lyrically up to par. So they did choose girls with personalities that would conflict, but at the same time they choose some damn fools with talent.

DX: When your team was put up for elimination I was positive that Bree was going home. Were you surprised that you were eliminated?
LT:
I was. I really, really was. I felt like my rhyme was on topic. I addressed it. Of course they didn’t air the whole 16 bars but it was all about the drama in the house.

DX: So who do you think should take home the crown?
LT:
I wanna say Ms. Cherry or Reese.

DX: You mentioned on the show that you’re also in school for journalism, is that something you’re still pursuing?
LT:
Yeah, I’m graduating in two weeks!

DX: Congrats! So you might be stealing my job at DX from me?
LT:
If it opens up, I’ll be there. [Laughs]

DX: What’s next for you? What can we expect to see from Lady Twist now?
LT:
Right now I’m in comedy; I’ve been doing a lil' stand-up around the way. A lot of people tell me I’m funny, so I figured what the hell, let me see what I can do with that. It’s been workin’ out quite nicely. I got a mixtape out right now, and workin’ at a radio show too. I’m definitely in this industry to stay. I’m trying to make a major change in people’s expectations of music.
