Miss Rap Supreme Castaways: Lionezz

April 17th, 2008 | Author: Aliya Ewing

When the masterminds at Ego Trip decided to create the new Vh1 series, Miss Rap Supreme, we knew hilarity would ensue. After all, these are the same cats that brought us The White Rapper Show ["Hallelujah hollaback," anyone?]. Unfortunately for one contestant, it was her grand opening/grand closing episode as she was the first of the lovely ladies to be booted off.

Lionezz' s Hip Hop stem back to her childhood, where her father was a deejay at a Munich roller-skating rink. Despite her German roots, Lionezz hates beer and Germany’s notorious cold weather, which might explain why this 29-year-old decided to move to Orlando, Florida to persue her rap career.

HipHopDX took a few minutes to catch up to the eye-catching femcee to dish about all the scenes that didn’t make it to air, and why she believes she was unfairly cast-off

HipHopDX: One of the first comments you made while on the show was that you hope Miss Rap Supreme isn’t like The White Rapper Show. Why is that?
Lionezz:
Oh, actually we were talking about the house; what the house looks like. I hoped it didn’t look like The White Rapper Show because it looked dirty and they didn’t have nice beds and stuff like that.

DX: So the comment wasn’t about the whole show itself? It was just edited to look like that?
L:
No, it was about the way they were living in the house.

DX: Its pretty common knowledge that “reality” TV actually has tons of editing involved. Do you feel like you were fairly portrayed in the show?
L:
Hmm… [Laughs]. Maybe not 100%. Let’s say this: Of course they can't show [all of] the raps from everybody, but we were spittin’ in front of the beauty shop, the sorority girls [and other places]. And I spit some hot shit, and they didn’t really show that.

DX: That first night of Truth or Dare looked pretty wild. What did we miss that was too hot for TV?
L:
[Laughs] You know when there’s 10 girls in one house and no guys ,and girls get drunk and everyone is kinda wild and, you know, everybody got a lil' bi in them! [Laughs] things got a little crazy…

DX: [Laughs] So I know you moved to Florida from your homeland of Germany. When did you decide to move from Germany?
L:
Well the first time was when I was a teenager because I have family here; and I fell in love with Florida. So from then on I [traveled] back and forth. I really settled [in Florida] I think about three years ago

DX: Have you been back to Germany recently? How’s the Hip Hop scene there?
L:
I kinda try to follow along with it, but I’m not happy with what’s going on over there. Maybe it’s because I’m not there no more so I can't really feel what they're doing. It’s just going in a totally different direction than American Hip Hop.

DX: Who are some of your favorite female emcees?
L:
My favorite is Lil Kim. I like her style. As far as spittin’ skills, I like Da Brat.

DX: Were you a fan of Yo-Yo growing up?
L:
I listened to that song “Don’t Play Wit My Yo-Yo” definitely. [Laughs]

DX: [Laughs] What are your feelings towards women using their sexuality in Hip Hop
L:
The thing is…If we’re talkin’ about real emcees and skills; no, you don’t need [to use sexuality]. But if you wanna make it though, it’s all about the whole package. Then I think some kind of ‘look’ should be involved.

DX: Do you feel like some of the femcees who go for a more street, tomboy look tend to get more respect as far as skills?
L:
First when you look at someone, you wouldn’t really give credit to her if she was dressed up and sexy. But I think it’s all about spittin’. It doesn’t matter how you look; you’ll get respect. You’ll get props.

DX: You were booted off on the first episode, do you think you deserved to go so soon?
L:
Nope. [Laughs] Khia is good; that’s my opinion. And I think that she’s a good rapper. But she didn’t do what she was supposed to do. And if she would have just rhymed 16 bars then I would say, “Okay,” but she didn’t do that.

DX: I also heard that what she did spit was from an already written song of hers, and that’s clearly against the rules. How do you feel about being booted even though Khia blatantly cheated?
L:
Maybe she didn’t really think about it. Maybe she didn’t really understand that that’s something she’s not supposed to do.

DX: On the show you clearly hear Serch say that the 16 bars has to be original and nothing you’ve written in the past.
L:
Yes, that’s true. But when I watched the show that was the first time I [heard him say that] too. Because when I was [on the show] and under pressure-- having to write 16 bars-- I was already thinking [of what to spit] in my head. So I wasn’t even thinking about anything [the judges] were saying. I don’t wanna make any excuses for anybody; it definitely wasn’t fair. Continued on page 2 »
