Lecrae and Kendrick Lamar have been friends for years, but have yet to collaborate musically. Lecrae has been more vocal about their friendship than the Compton rapper, but Kendrick’s co-sign on Lecrae’s first mixtape was one of the key moments that allowed the Reach Records founder and emcee to get some credit in the mainstream Hip Hop world. K.Dot appears at the beginning of the “Church Clothes” video to introduce his friend. The Compton rapper joins DJ Premier, Statik Selektah and 9th Wonder in welcoming Lecrae to the main stage of Hip Hop.

Lecrae posts “Death to Molly” on Instagram
Kendrick made waves when he concluded his “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe” video with the words “Death to Molly,” calling for an end to the glorification of the drug. Lecrae has always been vocal about his drug-free lifestyle. He gave his friend a nod with this Instagram post and the caption “Pop collars not mollies.”

“Backseat Freestyle” is one of those songs that taken out of context can be the perfect example of everything that’s wrong with Hip Hop. But Lecrae knows better. He tweeted this line because he knows the song was literally young Kendrick freestyling with his homies, dreaming about the day they made it big. And look where Kendrick is now.
