Just as Ye’s album cover was banned for ‘chillin on the couch with his Phoenix’, he delivers the Phoenix story ‘Don’t Look Down’ with Mos, Lupe & Big Sean.

    1. NICE im 1st.. i really hated Kanye like a yr ago but the stuff he puting out now is fire.. team #G.O.O.D MUSIC

    2. A more serious track from Kanye. This must have been meant for the album given the storyline. Nice track nonetheless, like everything he’s released since See Me Now

    3. this is actually nice, one of the few nice songs of late ive been hearing from kanye, the rest have been overhyped but nothing special, this is good music…

      1. No fool Jimmy sounds like big sean get your facts straight big seans been rappin since jimmy was wheelchairin around.

      1. Sorry, I’d rather enjoy good music instead of wasting my energy focusing on imaginary clubs. Now gtfoutta here.

    4. kanye on some other shit. its like hes bored with hip hop and hes gotta do shit like this. sometimes it gets annoying because he thinks hes so cool. 3/5

    5. this the gay anthem right here ! dont get me wrong people : i love mos def and lupe but kanye and big sean are nothin but faggots !

      1. Niga shut the fuk up like lloyd banks said : “Niga make some money before you make a comment” u broke dumb niga

      1. hey man thanks for dropping knowledge, i’d love to get at u and ask u some questions, u got a youtube account?

    7. This right here is Movie Music, what Kanye is doing right now conceptually is astounding. He is elevating the art form.

    8. I think Lupe had, by far, the best verse. Big Sean’s wasn’t bad at all…but Lupe’s was very poetic and it told a story without the little bits of gratuitous cursing, and the little degrading bit about 5 women going down on him at once. It was unnecessary…especially for this type of beat and vibe. I couldn’t even get into Kanye’s verse because of all the synthesized voice stuff. The song would’ve been better off without it. I’m suprised that people thought it was boring…I was really into Mos and Lupe’s parts at the very least…good music and not just random rap-bragging and punchlines

      1. Too bad that was Big Sean line about the 5 girls givin’ dome. Damn don’t comment if you don’t know the artists!

      1. whys it always gotta be about comparing someone to someone else…just appreciate what the mutherfucka’s doin

if you aint got nothin nice to say dont say nothin

        nuff said

    9. Lupe is poetry. The hook, beat everything is amazing but Big Sean sounds out of place here its irritating really because the song sounds perfectly til he starts rapping. The song could have ended right before he starts and been perfect thats what i did on itunes. I hate bringing negativity into the convo but it’s true I cant help but think that Kanye keeps doing this to not get outshined on his own songs.

      1. This is truly amazing music man. People gonna feel this 1000 years from now. The only reason I would criticize is because how much i LOVE the rest of this song. Its beautiful. Forgive the negativity,

    10. Kanye could have put Common instead of Big Sean or just let Lupe have the whole song. Why not? If its for the sake of the artistry as Kanye says he should have realized how good he sounds and let him have it. He did it on LR for Common on My Way Home. Lupe captured the essence of the song with his verse or maybe he made it. Im not even one of these Lupe stans but im starting to see why they champion this dude so much.

      1. Fuck Drake mainstream artist.Drake stole Seans flow and admitted it in a interview.Sean is punchline King.Hes the best with it.GOOD MUSIC

    12. I give Kanye so much credit for the insane beat, if he produced it. Lupe was decent in this song, he sounds like a narrator from a movie, I think that’s what he was going for. Well done Lupe. Mos Def was nice on the hook. Big Sean had an insane verse. Kanye…lyrically…’Ye was outmatched on his own song lyrically. He did just aight. Lupe was poetic. Big Sean was just…damn this dude has talent. I give it a 5 because even though ‘Ye lacked lyrically I’m assuming he produced the beat which is genius, and the other 2 verses and the hook were great.

    13. why does kanye have to use autotune? fuck. this is a good song but why? pisses the shit out of me!! ill give it a 4 for that

    14. By the sound of the drums and percussion, I’d say this was produced by No I.D., not Kanye, but that’s beside the point. Overall; I like what I heard, and very much enjoy the collaborative side of music…

Listen to my latest street single “Under My Sun”

      http://vimeo.com/16038297

    15. Mesmerising. Ye did it again, his consistency is par excellence. Collaborations were great and the repetitive drum roll and marching feel against the dreamy pads, synths with the distortion and Mos’ hook was pure ear orgasm. I cannot stop listening to this track and there are very few tracks that move me like this. It’s inspirational.

    16. J cole need to be on this track. Love mos def on the hook. It was cool though, respect to all them cause i enjoy the music when they come through so never going to hate on kanye this beat is fucken sick.

    17. They were all dope but it was what i expected of them, I actually think Drake would have murdered this track, everything about it kinda fits the type of music he makes, especially the subject matter.

    18. yeah, diz song kickz azz. fuck all u kanye haterz. u no diz iz g.o.o.d. muzik! “my beautiful dark twisted fantasy” nov 22. u muthafuckaz betta by dat shit and leave nickgay minaj-a-tois and gay lloyd bankz on da shelf. fuck them!

GOOD MUZIK! GOOD MUZIK! GOOD MUZIK!

    19. Damn People Give Big Sean Some credit he killed it too. The Song Cold but Ye need to take that bullshit off his voice. but everybody did they thing..

    20. personally I think the guitar amp fx shoulda been saved for the hooks instead of ye’s verse.. the hooks too loud without it.. but check out my music page at mp3unsigned.com/jmdahitmaker ‘n lemme know what y’all think

      1. Thats why I have always liked Mos. He is one of the few that can actually sing… Not any of this autotune humming over the beat shit

    24. Drake would have been sick for sure on this track.. The beat fits his flow I think. Drake has been doing alot of slow stuff lately, but he sounds his best when on a beat like this..
“Show me a good time” & “Best I ever had” were more sped up beats like this.. Think about it, for real.

      1. NO! your a fuckin idiot if you think Drake fits this song. hes nsync type dude and should stay well away from talented people like this.

        Alex

        whats wrong truth hurts?
fuck you! Drake ain’t what we thought he was hes better off as a singer but he can’t hold a note for shit at that.

    25. lyric and breakdown

Mos: don’t look down, it’s an impossible view//fly like an eagle whatever you do//don’t look down, it’s an impossible view//spread your wings, aerial //
      Lupe:
Head to the sky, wings raised then// she’s about to fly, and take her place in//Out there in the stars when she leaves the ground// she’ll see a broken heart, if she turns around//But aint no going back, this is how it must be// he told her she’ll be burned alive she just told him trust me//If funerals are beautiful this is ugly// knowing this he told her you would leave me if you loved me//And he knows that, because he knows her//hard to hide his feelings, as he engulfs her//Now she’s a bright blaze light rays// I shooting out our phoenix on fire burnin up the nightscape//So let’s hear it for our heroin//applaud as the spirit just flies to the never end//One closed chapter it opens another part//so this is more like, the end question mark//

I write poetry and lyrics all the time and here is my breakdown on the hook, and lu’s verse.
Hook: The phoenix is flying to and with “he”. Mos is saying don’t look down to the phoenix’s life she is leaving behind because where you are now is so great. The view is a metaphor of the greatness of the new life the phoenix has with “he”, the old life is dead, and that is why the song is called the phoenix story because in witchcraft, the occult, ancient egyptains, new age,Satanism/luciferianism the phoenix represents the destruction of something, and out of the destruction comes something new. A little side note: the original bird of America wasn’t an eagle it was a phoenix. Don’t believe me look it up. But anyway that’s basically the hook.
Mr Jaco: the phoenix starts on the ground at the end of her old life about to take flight and meet “him”. Lupe explains that once she’s airborne she will be sad because she’s leaving behind her normal life, but once you decide to go to “him” there is no going back. He warns her he will kill her if she tries, and she reassures him that she wont. The funeral line refers to the meaning of the phoenix. Funeral are beautiful, but this is the opposite; she is being reborn. “He” who is portrayed as fire burns her, inside and out, we know this because he knows her. So now she is officially with the stars, she’s a part of the nightscape. She has her new life, her great life described in the hook. The other stars applaud her, and we finally learn who “he” is. He is the spirit who just blessed her with her new life and now he flies off… the last line alludes to the fact that the story has just begun.
Basically this is a poetic description of selling your soul to the devil, well in my opinion but it seems pretty obvious.

      1. Your a dick head kid
“Don’t look down, its an impossible view ( referencing don’t look down to hell )
fly like an eagle, ( in the bible angels are reffed to as eagles ) whatever you do
Don’t look down, its an impossible view
        spread your wings, aerial”

      2. Lol its funny how jsmart got scolded for making fun of poetry. 10 years ago everyone would have joined in with him. But I guess this aint the 90s no more…you dont get props for being ignorant and acting hard. With that said, i agree, jsmart is an idiot and props iddle for breaking it down.

      3. if you read kanye’s xxl interview, then this view point possibly could be tru.
Firstly, nothing some of these rappers say is just put there. There is always a meaning behind it. Synboalsim also has allot to do with it.
So quit calling the dude names!

For example…if I say to my mate to me and her it might mean more than it means to someone who is just listening. The same goes for allot of rappers.

      4. Man i respect you trying to break it down, and that’s a really in depth way of perceiving the lyrics, but not everything needs to be brokenness, If any of you watch Kanye’s short film Runaway, you’ll see that this song is just as the title says The Phoenix Story, kinda a continuation and summary of what happened at the end. Especially Lupe’s part. Again nothing against the breakdown, i just think its an over complication of simple lyrics. But everyone will perceive poetry differently that’s the nature of art

      5. ^Ey man why dont you chill out. Poetry is open to interpretation. You take what you want from it. You understand it how you wanna understand it. But then that is what led to al-qaeda, KKK and other radical religious groups reading into thing thats not even there. So yeah shut the f*ck up fool.

    26. Im soo sick of everone trying to connect kanye to illumanti or free masons or devil worshiping. if you dumb fucks dont know by now , kanye West is not a free mason or a devil worshiper. He is God body. God body is someone who feels that god is in them, Jay – Z is also god body!if everyone would fuck off there nuts and actualy listen to the music and the words kanye is saying you would know that. Case and point Jay z on a featured track says ” Hovie Hov is god body ” thats your prof. Kanye west says in “i know you see me now” “When you get to hell tell lucifer i said hello , ask him if im going there i said hell no” they both have lyrics that negate them from all this dumb ass devil talk . Get off Ye’s dick and enjoy this good music!

      1. You’re an idiot. That is not what “God Body” means. And whoever said Kanye is freemason doesn’t know shit. He works for mason’s. He is not one.

      2. Kanye sed “I sold my soul to the devil thats a crappy deal, at least it came with some toys like a happy meal.” SNM

      3. jay-z has said before that he doesn’t believe in god?

“Jesus can’t save you, life start when the church ends”

you have no idea what your talking about

    27. This song is essentially the companion piece to Kanye’s “Runaway” video. As simple as that. In summarizing the concept of the runaway video Lupe did it the absolute best (which is crazy considering it isn’t his video). Ofc Kanye was on point, and Big Sean shocked me and did pretty good.

    28. First off this beat is unreal and this track should be on that ‘track list’. Lupe went in! Big Sean went hard and gave the song emotion. Kanye my nig, drop the auto-tune on this one, verse is hot though!!
      Keep up the great work!

    29. I’m not even as big on lupe as others (think he’s nice but nowhere near my personal top 10-15), but he was VERY NICE on this track. Very poetic. kanye’s distortion was annoying. Leave that to outkast on “Da art of storytelling”. Big sean was decent, but just the drake flow/tone was ehhh…would of been better with a SICK LYRICIST like Pharoahe Monch, Common, Nas, or even Mos spitting a verse…Enjoyed it though annoying kanye distortion aside

    30. There is a lot of history behind the phoenix. the Ancient Egyptians believed the Phoenix (or the Bennu bird) to be a symbol of the Sothic cycle of 1460 years (which is the time it took the Egyptians’ 365-day calendar to resynchronize with the beginning of the yearly cycle, marked by the heliacal rising of Sirius aka Isis). this was important for them because at every beginning of a new cycle…11,451, 10,081, 7160, 4241 and 2781 BC there was a commencement of some of the greatest building projects all across the Nile.

At every new Sothic cycle, the Phoenix was heralded for its return because it meant the birth of a new age and a new dispensation.

In Alchemy, if we succeed in making our selfish, sexual desires into living spiritual desires, then the bird of resurrection (the Phoenix) rises. Alchemists were keen on experimenting and studying ways between the material vs. spiritual worlds with items such as, sulphur, mecury, salt, etc.; as they represented different parts of our body respectively in esoteric philosophy. To them, the heart is an organ of perception and believe that people who can comprehend ‘love’, can see the world in a different way.

Weird shit, i know…but you’re wondering how/why is this all relevant? Well, because people still hold these beliefs and impose this type of knowledge for us (the 85
%)to subconsciously instill in our habitual lives. Take a look at obelisks. The Egyptians saw the obelisk as as a sacred structure on which the Phoenix alights to mark the end of one civilization and the beginning of another…aka it’s a symbol of the birth of a new age…like a gigantic lightning conductor, it draws down the spiritual influence of the sun (in which the Phoenix is linked with).

So yes, George Washington and the rest of those human paraquats knew exactly what they were getting into when they made the writs for this “country.” Fuck all the bullshit though, i’m doing just like Nas in Belly…and going back to Africa. Chant Down Babylon.

    35. This song BLOWS… Kayne get off the voice boxs shits played out. I barely like lupe on this. Honestly shits depressing. If you think is hott just wait I got something for all Y’all…

    36. I thought the beat was dope. Whether or not you like the voice box, this is still better than most of the trash on the radio.

    37. Agreed but just wait I sitting on some talent in South Carolina that will rival J-Cole (in my opinion Best Rapper still spittin)…

    38. i swear everyone on this website are fucking idiots. first of all Lupes verse was dope as shit if you pay any attention to what the song was about you would understand that. Kanyes verse lyrically wasnt bad but it becomes almost unbearable at some points with that fucking effect on it. and Big sean goes in and yes it is big sean on the last verse not drake you dumb fucks. and of course mos def killed the Hook. nothing more to say. if you disagree kill yourself you dont no shit.

    39. TOP 20

    40. How can people say Lupe had a bad verse? If you know the story of the Phoenix and listen to what he said, aka the words not the beat, you’ll realize the story he’s telling. People say hip-hop’s dying, maybe you should actually listen to the good shit thats comin out.

      1. i agree with you 100% this is definitely a classic down to mos singin the hook, and once again, the mystery of why everybody wants only dumb rap continues……

    41. Im feel this alot!!! keep comin wit it GOOD music taking over, they just sign this kid Rick Fouche i heard about
