With the continuing platinum success of the Eastsidaz's debut album on Snoop Dogg's record label Doggy Records. The hip hop mogul has introduced his second group on his progressing West Coast label. Bringing into the musical forefront is the female trio of Doggy's Angels. The group consists of Big Chan, Coniyac and Kola, the newest protégés of Snoop Dogg.
The album's blueprint was established to represent the West Coast sound. For instance, the album has many guest appearances from various artists and skits which hold true to the traditional West Coast album. Doggy's Angels come through with gangsta style rhymes overtop heavy bass beats and a funk tempo. The trio debuted with two singles Baby, If you're Ready and Ridaz With Me which introduced the group to the urban music audiences.
The tracks I would suggest to lock into is Pop Your Collar 2 Dis, Told You So and by far the tightest cut of the album is the salsa-laced Pleezabaleevit! featuring Layzie Bone. The tracks on this latest release were surprisingly written by the trio. However, it was aided with the assistance of Snoop Dogg and West Coast's premier urban producers, such as Fredwreck and Jelly roll.
However, there some flaws to this Snoop produced album. For instance, besides Snoop, Nate Dogg and Layzie Bone, there is no established artist featured on Pleezbaleevit!, which is not a selling feature to their release. Doggy's Angels debut will not attract a wide range of listeners, due to the fact, there should have been more diverse and complete artists featuring on their tracks. In addition, the trio are not bustin out with anything solid lyrically, highlighted on cuts such as Frontline and Gangsta In Me. The album is comprised with somewhat dry and predictable beats as well.
Doggy's Angels debut will be a bona fide hit for Snoop, in retrospect; it will not reach the same heights as The Eastsidaz. However, it is evident that this trio from South Central will have solid place in the new age in the female hip hop game. I will give it 3 of out 5 records.
Peace
