BET Hip Hop Awards Recap: The DX Edition
Although he was nominated for nine awards, rapper Kanye West was a no-show at this years BET Hip Hop Awards [click to read] which taped on Saturday, October 10.
Aside from a few cue-card mishaps from host Mike Epps, the BET Hip Hop Awards [click to read] ran quite smoothly.
Due to the fact that the show airs about two weeks after it’s actual taping not all of the awards were announced during the taping on Saturday. But Jay-Z did take home the MVP of the Year Award, Drake (who was also not in attendance) won Rookie of the Year, TI was awarded best collaboration, and the late DJ AM was given the DJ of the Year Award.
On top of the awards, rappers Ice Cube and Missy Elliott and choreographer Fatima Robinson were given special honors.
Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane seemed to be the star of the night as he took part in three different performances: “Pretty Girls” with Wale, “Break Up” with Mario, and “Gucci Bandana.”
The awards show began and ended with noteworthy performances from Young Jeezy, Jay-Z, and Goodie Mob. Young Jeezy and Jay-Z opened with “Real As It Gets” while Goodie Mob closed out the show with “Cell Therapy” and “Get Rich To This.”
