DX News Bits: Drake, Trina DJ Drama
DJ Drama and several others have been cleared of charges filed by Cash Money Records citing that they weren't compensated apropriately. This was not a problem when Drama and Wayne worked together on mixtapes at first but the problem came up once Drama began selling his tapes in retail stores.
New York Judge Cederbaum cleared the defendants of the charges due to the lack of "valid legal claim against [the] defendants.”
Wallace Colins, the lawyer that represented BCD Music Group, which was named as a defendant in the case, told AllHipHop.com [click here] about the matter.
“[The] plaintiff (Cash Money Records) had requested that the case be dismissed ‘without prejudice’… which would have meant that Cash Money could try again,” Collins told AllHipHop.com. “However, the judge agreed with our request that it be dismissed ‘with prejudice;’ which basically drives a stake through the heart of the action and puts the final nail in the coffin of this lawsuit; it’s over and done!"
In other news, Slip-N-Slide is still working with EMI Label Services. They have renewed their partnership and will link up for future S-N-S releases including work from Jagged Edge and others. Trina is prepping the release of her fifth solo album but that release has been pushed back to March of 2010.
Finally, there seems to be a problem with Drake's So Far Gone packaging, according to Rapradar.com [click here]. There is no sign of Drake and his partner/manager Cortez Bryant's label Aspire. There is a Young Money logo but the credits go to Cash Money Records while Universal Motown Records is credited for handling the manufacturing, distribution and marketing.
