Spike Lee to Honor Michael Jackson In Brooklyn
"It's going to just be how we do it, Brooklyn-style, I'll leave it at that," Spike Lee said. "It's going to be a joyous, festive, celebratory party."
What gave Lee the idea to do this? According to Lee, the filmmaker felt a connection with MJ after the two collaborated for a video.
“We’re of the same era,” he noted. “I wanted my afro to be perfectly round like Michael’s, all that stuff.”
The event will take place at Fort Greene Park in Brooklyn, New York on Saturday August 29. The celebration will begin at noon and will go on until 5 p.m. The day will also be declared "Michael Jackson Day." To top it off, Spike said that Brooklyn's voice will be heard by all.
“At the end, we’ll all sing Happy Birthday to Michael,” he added. “We’re going to make sure he hears us, too. All over the world, people are going to be celebrating his birthday. But he’s going to hear Brooklyn; Brooklyn is going to be in the house. Deep.”
