In a video announcement that was released earlier today (June 20), the Beastie Boys[click to read]Adam “MCA” Yauch revealed that he has been diagnosed with cancer.

Yauch explained that a cancerous tumor was found in his left salivary gland last week and that immediate surgery is required.

“I’m actually going to have to have surgery probably next week, coming up, and then after that have to have some radiation done,”
said Yauch in the video. “But the good news is that they did scans of my whole body and it’s only localized in this one area, and it’s not in a place that affects my voice…this is something that’s very treatable.”

Due to these unfortunate circumstances the Beastie Boys[click to listen] will be canceling their shows this summer. And the Beastie Boys’ eighth album Hot Sauce Committee Part 1 will be pushed back from its original September 15 release date.

“I apologize to everybody, for anyone who’s made plans or was psyched to come to these shows that are coming up,”
Yauch added. “We’ll be back doing this soon.”
