Rihanna To Testify In Chris Brown Hearing?

Chris Brown is set to appear in court again today, and if the prosecution deems it necessary, he could see Robyn Rihanna Fenty there to testify against him. Today’s hearing is to “…decide whether there is enough evidence to send the case against Brown to trial,” CNN reports. It is also in regards to the February 8, 2009 domestic violence incident that occurred between the two of them in which Brown was charged with felony battery.

Rihanna’s lawyer, Donald Etra, says that last month, prosecutors told him they would call her in to testify. She’s cleared her schedule for today just in case it actually comes to that. If she is called, it will be her first time publicly speaking on the incident, since it occurred four months ago.

Police reports indicate that it wasn’t Rihanna that initially called 9-1-1, and that someone nearby heard her screams and dialed it, instead. During the incident, she only pretended to make a call to her personal assistant, and once Chris realized this, he said, “You just did the stupidest thing ever! Now I'm really going to kill you!”

It was clear from the beginning that Rihanna didn’t want to ruin Brown’s career, because she “did not file a complaint against Brown, but the prosecution’s case is built on what she told detectives and on physical evidence they collected from her—including photographs of her bruised and battered face,” says CNN.

Etra also states that at several months ago at Brown’s first hearing, Rihanna made it a point to ensure that the two of them would still be able to contact each other. Chris Brown could face up to nine years in prison if convicted of the charges.
