Outkast‘s Big Boi released his solo album’s debut single, “Something’s Gotta Give” [click to listen], in July of 2008. He says his solo project has been done for a while, yet Sir Lucious Leftfoot: The Son of Chico Dusty will probably not see a proper release until this summer. So what’s causing the hold up?
“Jive Records, man,”Big Boi explained to Rolling Stone magazine. “You know what goes with Jive? Shuckin’ and jivin’. And the fans have been thinking it’s me and Dre. You can’t work on music for two-plus years and just give it to a label and they just fuck it up.”
As such, Big Boi says he has been the one responsible for leaking tracks such as “Royal Flush” [click to read] and “Ringtone” [click to listen] to the public to sustain interest in his first solo album.

“I’ve been doing it myself,”Big Boi added. “It’s like I’m indie right now, but they won’t let us out the contract. The Clipse said it best [on ‘Mr. Me Too’] when they said ‘they weren’t playing fair at Jive.’ They don’t want to spend the money, but the music’s gonna make its own way.”
In the meantime, Big Boi is working with his revamped Purple Ribbon roster, which includes Konkrete and Vonnegutt. Assuming his label troubles get ironed out, “Daddy Fat Sacks” will offer an album that features T.I., George Clinton, Lil Jon and his Outkast partner Andre 3000.
