DX News Bits: Kanye West Edition
Kanye West reveals the inner workings of his blog, enlists advice of top London designers for new denim label.
With a number of ventures in the works for Chicago rapper, producer and entrepreneur Kanye West, one has to wonder how Kanye could possibly manage to run his popular blog at KanyeUniverseCity.com on his own. According to Kanye the content on his blog, which consists of several entries per day, is chosen and created by him.
New York magazine recently caught up with the ’Ye to discuss how exactly he manages such a popular blog with his hectic schedule.
“It might [be] two hours in a day, it might be fifteen minutes in a day. I have two people that I hired and I tell them exactly what I want — it’s just like how a designer would work. I tell them, you know, ‘Surface’ magazine, Wallpaper,’ ‘Architectural Digest,’ Hypebeast, Bossip — go to these different blogs and keep on pulling information,” Kanye explained. “And then they send it to me, and I get like 80 e-mails, and I have to check and go through them. And sometimes I’ll have my own stuff where I’ll just be in a cool place, like if I had my camera right now, I’d like photograph this stuff and go home and be really excited to blog it.”
In similar news, Kanye has been speaking with several designers in London in the hopes of receiving advice for his upcoming jean label.
According to a source, Kanye has spoken to several people at Religion clothing firm and has even had the opportunity to speak with designer Henry Holland.
“He really loves British style - it’s captured his imagination. And he wanted to tap into the source to give him some ideas,” a source told British tabloid The Daily Mirror. “…Kanye wants his product to have the same level of prestige. He doesn’t want his clothes to just have his name on, he wants to develop them into a credible range.”
There is still no word yet on the name of Kanye’s jean label and when it will launch.
