Major N.W.A. Biopic Reportedly In Pre-Production
According to the source, the director is mind is to be similar to 8 Mile's Curtis Hanson.
N.W.A. is credited as west coast rap pioneers between 1986 and 1991. The core group of founder Eazy E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, MC Ren [click to read] and deejay Yella hailed from Compton, California and revolutionized the effect independent rappers challenged the mainstream with songs like "Fuck The Police."
The group abbreviated for "Niggaz With Attitude" disbanded shortly after Ice Cube left the group in 1990 over a financial dispute. Soon after, Dr. Dre would leave over similar reasons to co-found Death Row Records. Eazy E died tragically of AIDS in March, 1995. Adding Snoop Dogg [click to read] to replace Eazy in 1999, and without involving Yella, the N.W.A. name and three fifths of its founders were brought out again in 1999 for two popular singles, used for soundtracks, "Hello" and "Chincheck."
The news comes less than two months after The Vapors, a similar biopic on Queens' The Juice Crew was reportedly scrapped after a year of pre-production [click to read].
