Underground emcee Bru Lei, formerly of group Spitball with Blueprint and Illogic producer DJ Przm, has recently serenaded one of his peers in a strange new way. “Jean Grae” [click to listen] is a dedication to the Blacksmith artist [click to read] and underground veteran emcee and producer in her own right.

Lei, who was for a time, a label-mate with Eminem on Detroit’s Silent Records, told HipHopDX how the song was more stemming from a choice between two very different Hip Hop artists. “The song grew out of real situation where I had the opportunity to
see either Jean or Lloyd Banks live the same night.  A lot of the
rhymes came from MySpace responses I got when I asked people via my
page, which show they would go to, so I can think the MySpace friends
for inspiration on that one.  I really did meet Jean, like it says in
the song and describes our encounter.  I showed her people’s responses
via MySpace and she loved it.

The song uses the stance of both being a fan of Grae‘s art and performance, but also her beauty and intellect.

The emcee, still with Przm, placed the song on their EP Shroom Crumbz, released last week. Lei says he’s still anxious to hear response from the song’s inspiration. “I’m not sure if she has heard the song
yet, but I would love to work with her or do a tour together, I’m
obviously a big fan.
