After being nominated in 2008 [click to read], Hip Hop pioneers Run DMC are just one of a handful of musicians to be inducted into Cleveland’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year.

The sole Hip Hop group to be inducted this year, Run DMC will join the likes of Metallica, Beck, and several other artists as inductees.

“I can’t even comprehend this is happening,”Darryl “D.M.C.” McDaniels told Rolling Stone. “I want to let the world know that there are others receiving this honor with us. I’m talking about our heroes Afrika Bambaataa, Treacherous Three, the Cold Crush Brothers and DJ Kool Herc.”

Created in the early 80’s and consisting of members Joseph “Run” Simmons, Darryl “D.M.C.” McDaniels, and the late Jason “Jam-Master Jay” Mizell, Run DMC became one of the most well known and influential groups in Hip Hop with hits like “Walk This Way” [click to read], “My Adidas”, “It’s Tricky” [click to read], and “It’s Like That” [click to read].

In 2007, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five became the first Hip Hop group to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This year’s induction ceremony will take place on April 4 in Cleveland, Ohio.
