Former "American Idol" standout Jennifer Hudson has been largely out of the spotlight since the murders of her mother, brother and nephew. However, 2009 looks to see Hudson return in a major way, as the singer has been tapped to sing the “Star Spangled Banner” at President-Elect Barack Obama’s inauguration.

According to the New York Post, organizers for the ceremony have reached out to Hudson to perform the song.

This would be her first performance since October.

Hudson is from Chicago and was a vocal Obama supporter during the general election campaign.

She was selected to sing the national anthem at last year’s Democratic National Convention.

As of press time, there was no official word from the Hudson camp on whether or not she would accept the invitation to perform.
