Chamillionaire Named Co-Grand Marshall In Martin Luther King Jr. Parade

Koopa will be the first Hip Hop artist to lead Houston's MLK tribute.

Grammy Award winner Chamillionaire will be going where no rap artist has gone before, as he has been named Co-Grand Marshal the 2009 Martin Luther King Jr. Parade in Houston.

Chosen for his musical achievements and commitment to the city of Houston, the platinum artist will join U.S. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee, Houston City Council Member Peter Brown, local philanthropist, Douglas M. Horn and motivational speaker, Dr. Anthony Taylor to help put on the 300,000 person celebration.

This year the parade's theme of "The Color of Unity" will focus on celebrating cultural diversity. The MLK Parade Foundation, which is responsible for the parade, will host more than thirty award-winning marching bands from across the country.

The second Marine Aircraft Wing Marching Band from Cherry Point, North Carolina will lead the march. Other bands include, The Divine Land Marching Band, The University Of Houston Marching Band and The Willowridge High School Marching Band, who will all bring an element of cultural diversity with various ethnic sounds.
