Screwed Up Click alum Lil O announced this morning that he will host a food drive this Saturday. From 2pm to 5pm, the Houston rapper will be present in his home city's Watkins Center to collect non-perishable food items and donations. Those donations will go to The Houston Food Bank.

Attendees will be graced with a free concert, featuring a reported 50-plus artist set-list."Now more then ever as adults we need to lead by example, the days of excuses and self pity have passed. I challenge all media whether it be, radio, television and newspapers to get involved and help us spread the word. Please come out on Nov. 22, 2008 and help us feed the less fortunate. Thanks and God Bbess," said the H-Town veteran.

In other news, with the release of Wu: The Story of the Wu-Tang Clan, the group has released a soundtrack featuring 16 hits from the nine-member collective including group and solo work. Included are hits from 1993 single "Protect Ya Neck" [click to read] through to Ghostface Killah's [click to read] 2004 single "Run" [click to read] The soundtrack and DVD hit stores yesterday.

HipHopDX's own scholar on staff, Dr. Brian Sims announced this morning, that he will be bringing Jay-Z's work to academia through a new class offered at North Carolina A&T State University.

The class' official course description reads, "‘Psychological Perspectives in Hip Hop’ (PSYC 510) examines how principles and perspectives in psychology manifest themselves in Hip Hop culture. Developed and taught by Dr. Brian Carey Sims, the primary focus of the course is to examine different psychological concepts and identify the psychological underpinnings of hip hop from 1979 until the present."

This week on the course syllabus is dedicated entirely to legendary Hip Hop artist and mogul Jay-Z. According to Dr. Sims, the course is groundbreaking in that “it actually attempts to view the study of mental processes and behavior thorough a Hip Hop lens.”  Students explore such topics as racial identity, social justice, psychoactive drug use, sexism, and politics. “Mr. Carter provides an interesting frame of reference to discuss several psychological concepts, and as a fan I’m looking really looking forward to this week’s class,” said Sims.

The North Carolina A&T Psychology Deptartment is the #1 producer of African-American undergraduate degrees in psychology. A&T is one of only three HBCU's designated as a "Research Intensive Institution" by the U.S. Department of Education. PSYC 510 is reportedly the first Hip Hop related course offered in a psychology department in the world.
