Def Jam Creates "Def Jam Classics"

April 3rd, 2002 | Author:

Papa's got a brand new bag, Def Jam has inked music legends James Brown and Barry Wight to their new "Def Jam Classics" label. Barry Wight, "the maestro of love" is notorious for his incredibly deep voice and his love ballads for the ladies. Word is that he will be releasing an album in the fall.

The more interesting of the signings is definately James Brown. "The Godfather of Soul" is the most sampled man in the history of music and has had a massive influence on hip hop. I would think that it is only a matter of time before he does a hip hop collaboration with one of Def Jam's artists'. Hey, if Jay Z wants to take'em to church, who better to do it? I would also assume that we will see a lot more James Brown samples on Def Jam music, his samples are well-known to be very hard to clear.
