Jay-Z Dedicates '99 Problems' To McCain, Palin At Show

October 17th, 2008 | Author: Slava Kuperstein

Jay-Z joined DJ AM Wednesday (Oct. 15) night for the re-opening of the Hollywood Palladium, less than a month after DJ AM and Travis Barker survived a plane crash that wounded them and killed four others.

Jay-Z and AM performed for nearly two hours, backed by brass and rhythm sections dressed in tuxedos. The first show AM has done since the crash went smoothly, as the deejay didn't miss a step, even rapping with Hov from behind the turntables.

According to MTV News, Jay decided to make it an evening of shout outs. Some were expected, as Jay yelled to the audience "make some noise for DJ AM" three separate times in the concert.

But it was when he dedicated "99 Problems" to John McCain and a "homegirl" described not by name, but as "the one who says 'You betcha.' "

"I'm gonna get in trouble for this," joked Jay onstage, "but fuck it, this is freedom of speech."

Another highlight of the event was T.I., who joined Hov on stage to perform their verses from "Swagger Like Us." [click to listen] T.I.'s Paper Trail [click to read] is currently the top-selling album in the country.
