DX News Bits: The 50 Cent Edition

50 says he's back in Get Rich or Die Tryin' mode with a new album, movie and reality show.

In a departure from the strategy used on both The Massacre and Curtis, 50 Cent's upcoming album will not see him squaring off with the competition on his release date. The aforementioned albums were promoted with publicized shots at Fat Joe and Nas, as well as a sales battle with Kanye West. But 50's upcoming Before I Self Destruct, finds the G-Unit capo putting the spotlight squarely back on himself.

Both 50 and Interscope have said that during the recording process 50 "returned to working closely with Dr. Dre and Eminem as he did on his first album." In addition to attempting to recreate the formula that saw his debut sell over 12 million copies, 50 has continued to add to his ever-increasing business portfolio.

The rapper, actor and executive added director to his list of titles. On Dec. 9, he will release his 90-minute directorial debut film Before I Self Destruct along with the album of the same name.

As previously reported, 50 Cent will also make a foray into the realm of reality television. On Nov. 6 MTV will premiere "50 Cent: The Money and the Power" in its 10 PM slot. The show takes its cues from "Apprentice," and follows 16 "aspiring rap moguls" through challenges issued by 50 Cent. The New York Observer has already leaked the names of the contestants and located the 13-unit building in Brooklyn's Greenpoint section where the show is taped.

A panel including G-Unit members Tony Yayo and Lloyd Banks, along with guests such as LL Cool J, Miss Info and former Danity Kane member Aubrey O'Day [click to read] will judge the contestants. Each unsuccessful contestant is eliminated by 50 on a weekly basis, with the winner receiving a full scholarship to an undergraduate or graduate business program. The show was co-created by former VH1 Executive Vice President Michael Hirschorn.
