Ill Bill Champions Cypress Hill For Hip Hop Honors

October 6th, 2008 | Author: Jake Paine

Ill Bill is a huge fan of Hip Hop, which can be detected in his verses. Working extensively through Soul Assassin and Cypress Hill members recently, Bill spoke to HipHopDX Monday afternoon on how the group influenced him. "Just aside from being a huge fan of Soul Assassins and always following their shit, even the first Soul Assassins tour, when dudes first went out - Cypress Hill, House of Pain, Funkdoobiest and Whooliganz, I was there, chillin', watchin' the show as a huge fan. I go all the way back with those dudes from that."

On his album that released last month, The Hour of Reprisal [click to read], Bill worked with Cypress Hill's DJ Muggs [click to read] as well as B Real. To Bill and his group Non-Phixion, this has been a long time coming. "I was supposed to work with [DJ] Muggs on the first Non-Phixion album, when we had our deal with Geffen [Records]. That was one of the things we wanted to do. We had our list, a real short list, of producers we wanted to work with. Muggs was at the top of the list. This is like '96 - like 12 years ago. We spoke about working together, but it was one of those things that just alluded us all these years. But it's meant to me."

Speaking about the group being honored, Bill stated, "This shit should've happened 10 years ago. But it's already been written, it's out of my hands."

Vh1's Hip Hop Honors airs tonight at 10pm EST. HipHopDX also spoke to Sen Dog of the group, on the honor of this achievement [click to read].
