RZA Preps "Afro Samurai" And Discusses "Gospel Hill"

October 1st, 2008 | Author: Omar Burgess

The Wu-Tang Clan's RZA expects to be busy deep into the fourth quarter and beyond with his latest Hollywood ventures. After scoring the Vin Diesel action vehicle Babylon AD, "The Abbott" will be featured in Gospel Hill and will also score the upcoming Afro Samurai sequel.

"I play a character named Lonnie, a guy from the south, a very soft-spoken kid," RZA says of Gospel Hill. "I had to change my voice and everything. Once again, it's another chance for me to express my artistry and to step outside of myself. It was a great honor to act with people I've admired most of my life and share the stage with them. And also being next to Angela Bassett was like being next to an angel."

Gospel Hill premieres at the 11th annual Indie Memphis Film Festival Oct. 9-16. The drama stars Samuel L. Jackson, Angela Bassett, Nia Long, Danny Glover and Julia Stiles.

In addition to continuing promotion of his Digi Snax album, RZA is currently working on the score to Afro Samurai: Resurrection. The Wu-Tang Clan co-founder finds himself teamed up with Samuel L. Jackson again, who plays the title character Afro Samurai. Lucy Liu and Mark Hamill, of Star Wars fame, will also appear. Afro Samurai: Resurrection is slated for release in January of 2009.
