The "Dusty Fingers" Franchise To Go Mix CD
For 15 volumes, Dusty Fingers has become a franchise associated with exposing classic breakbeat records in Funk, Soul and Rock genres to rare groove enthusiasts and Hip Hop producers. Now, after over a decade of the volumes released first on vinyl and subsequently CD, the franchise creator, who will soon be revealed in a print story, showcases his mixing abilities.
"I'm just havin' fun, man. I can also deejay, and have an interesting approach on how I do it," said the presently-anonymous creator who revealed that he's been deejaying since 1973, Hip Hop's celebrated birth year. "If I was playin' at a party or something like that, I'd throw this [mix] on." He added to HipHopDX late Monday night, "[I want people to know] that I'm not just some guy who collects records. I'm also a deejay, a lot of people don't know it."
After over a decade of being an anonymous, faceless figure who revealed he's a lifelong Bronx resident said the impetus in revealing himself came from changing trends. "I said, 'Fuck it, I can press up vinyl no more;' the game is dead as far as putting out records no more - no one's buying it. So I'm just gonna come out as the Dusty Fingers deejay, and try to keep it live that way."
Also working as a Hip Hop producer, Dusty Fingers' creator is credited by many as the revealing sources of the sample for Eminem and Dr. Dre's "Guilty Conscience," 50 Cent's "Rowdy, Rowdy" and Nas' "Find Your Wealth."
Dusty Fingers - The Mix CD is presently available at retailers including Fat Beats, Turntable Lab and UndergroundHipHop.com.
