Ne-Yo Awarded Over $700,000 In R. Kelly Tour Suit

September 4th, 2008 | Author: Edwin Ortiz

Earlier this year, Ne-Yo [click to read] and his management sued R. Kelly’s promoter, Rowe Entertainment, for a breach of contract that sent Ne-Yo off of the Double Up Tour.

Guaranteed close to $785,000, Ne-Yo only performed twice before being sent off the 25 date tour. Besides the lawsuit, Ne-Yo contested that he was kicked off because his performance was “outshiningR. Kelly’s, who was the headliner.

Leonard Rowe of Rowe Entertainment responded back, stating that the oral agreement between both camps was not set in stone, and was the main reasoning for Ne-Yo’s removal. “I had no other alternative but to release Ne-Yo from the tour. From a business perspective, it would have been extremely difficult for me to continue under this cloud of uncertainty.” Now, it seems as though their business move has come back to haunt them.

Citing Rowe Entertainment with refusal to respond to the initial lawsuit, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Malcolm Mackey determined the decision today in favor of Ne-Yo, who is expected to receive $700,320 in compensation.

Rowe Entertainment has yet to respond to the final decision, which they will likely appeal. R. Kelly was not named in the lawsuit.
