With one of the biggest mixtapes of the third quarter in Mixtape Messiah 4 [click to listen], Chamillionaire is further solidifying his position as one of Hip Hop’s few emcees who can make street-certified mixtapes amidst critically-acclaimed and commercially-viable albums. Although the the track on MM4‘s bonus disc [click to listen], “Who Hotter Than Me?” claims top-ranking in the mixtape field, Chamillionaire expressed deep respect for some of his peers to HipHopDX recently.

Asked his favorite mixtape from another artist, the Houston superstar said, “Man, that’s a good question. Back in the day, when 50 [Cent] first came out, he had some real dope mixtapes. Now, it’s more the commercial thing where people say you’re singing a hook or whatever. Back then, he was just jackin’ peoples’ beats and puttin’ them real catchy melodies on a tight beat, and just puttin’ out tight stuff. This was before ‘Many Men,’ before all that. 50 kinda sparked that whole mixtape thing off. I’m not even talkin’ on no beefin’ stuff. Everybody gets cool with that, ‘I’ma diss this rapper’ hype and stuff, but this was on some good music stuff.Chamillionaire added that he preferred the mixtape material to the controversial “How To Rob” [click to read], which was instrumental in starting 50 Cent‘s drama with both Ghostface Killah and Jay-Z.

Then, speaking on contemporary artists, Chamillionaire humbly turned it over to peer and collaborator Lil Wayne. “I give it to Wayne, man. He out-working everybody on the mixtape circuit. When I talk to the underground stores out here in the mixtape world, they tell me that Wayne‘s runnin’ it. He’s the most active. He’s putting out the best material – there’s so much of it. I remember right before his album dropped, it was a song that had leaked called ‘Lisa Marie’ [click to listen]. Everybody thought it was [going to be on Tha Carter III]. It didn’t even go on his album. That was a real record to me, but it was on a mixtape. He has a lot of records like that. I’m impressed by that. That’s what everybody needs to do.
