Hip Hop pioneer DJ Red Alert will be celebrating 25 years of deejaying on radio this October. The honoring has already begun, as the icon was awarded August 17 at Harlem Week. The 25th anniversary will include weekly events in the New York tri-state area as well as a January honorary weekend in Japan.

Red Alert spent a bulk of his radio career at Kiss 98.7 FM, with time at Power 105.1 FM. He has been instrumental in the careers of Jungle Brothers, A Tribe Called Quest and Queen Latifah.

The deejay also founded Violator Management, now headed by Chris Lighty, the management firm responsible for the careers of 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes and N.O.R.E. He was named one of the “50 Most Influential People in Music” by Rolling Stone.
