Witness Accuses Mike Tyson In Plot Against Brooklyn Gang

June 13th, 2008 | Author: Omar Burgess

Dwayne "Thor" Meyers, an alleged member of Cash Money Brothers, testified that Mike Tyson was one of the people to contribute to a $50,000 contract to kill at least two members of the notorious Brooklyn street gang. During a Thursday trial against alleged CMB member Abubakr Raheem, Meyers claimed Tyson and Muhammad Nur helped orchestrate the hit on CMB leaders Damion "World" Hardy and Edward "Taz" Cooke.

"We got word Mike Tyson and [another man] had both contributed $50,000 apiece for the murders of Cash Money Brothers," Meyers testified. Although the contract was never carried out, Meyers says it was solicited in retaliation for the June 2000 killing of Tyson's bodyguard and close friend Darryl "Homicide" Baum.

Authorities and Meyers believed that Baum was the man who allegedly fired nine shots at 50 Cent during an unrelated, failed murder attempt. A person named "Homicide" is referenced as "Hamo" in the third verse of 50 Cent's "Many Men."

"I ain't gonna spell it out for you motherfuckers all the time/Are you illiterate nigga you can't read between the lines/In the Bible it says, 'What goes around comes around'/Hamo shot me three weeks later he got shot down/Now it's clear that I'm here for a real reason/'Cause he got hit like I got hit, but he ain't fuckin' breathin'."

Various members of the Cash Money Brothers have been charged with attempted murder, crack cocaine distribution and kidnapping, among other crimes. Neither the U.S. Department of Justice nor the NYPD have formally questioned Tyson or named him as a suspect in any crimes related to CMB members.
