DMX Arrested In Arizona on Drug, Animal Cruelty Charges

May 10th, 2008 | Author: William E. Ketchum III

It looks like Arizona’s Sheriff Joe Arpaio has backed up his words.

A day after he told a Phoenix news outlet that the case regarding DMX’s August 2007 arrest was still active [click here], a SWAT team entered the rapper’s home at 3 a.m. to arrest him on drug and animal cruelty charges, according to a report by the Associated Press.

After initially attempting to barricade himself in his bedroom, according to a news release from Arpaio’s office, X surrendered and gave himself up for arrest. The raid turned up more weapons and drugs, resulting in drug charges additional to the ones he was already facing, as well as five puppies. The dogs, which were pit bull mixes, were confiscated by animal cruelty specialists.

According to the aforementioned document, sheriff’s deputies are also investigating a nearby Mayo clinic regarding a “potential fraud scheme” involving X, real name Earl Simmons.

X’s local attorney, Cameron Morgan, said that X appeared in court the same day, and faces a bond of $7,500—an amount that Morgan believes will be paid quickly.

During X's arrest in August, officers found drugs, guns and dead dogs on the property of his Arizona home. While he was arrested then, he's just now being hit with charges.

“A guy like this DMX character with all his money and fame has no excuse for not providing proper care for his animals,” Arpaio said.
