HHDX News Bits (Lupe Fiasco, Floyd Mayweather & Amy Winehouse)

After pushing relentlessly amidst a drowning industry, Lupe Fiasco’s The Cool has finally been RIAA certified gold. While Nielsen Soundscan doesn’t show that Fiasco has sold in excess of 500k, RIAA includes outlets that Nielsen misses when calculating sales numbers. Regardless, this is a great victory for Fiasco as he continues touring with Kanye West, N.E.R.D. and Rhianna on the much heralded Glow In The Dark Tour. The gold plaque can be added to his many other accomplishments and accomplishments - including his recent Grammy win.

Floyd Mayweather, world champion boxer in five weight classes,  will serve as the honorary starter of the 92nd Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 25, 2008. Mayweather will wave the green flag to officially mark the beginning of the largest attended single day sporting event in the world, with an estimated crowd of over 400,000 people.    

Via press release Mayweather said "To be asked to wave the green flag at the Indianapolis 500 is an incredible honor. I'm extremely excited to be a part of this event and to see the best drivers in the world perform on the biggest stage in all of sports."

"We're happy to welcome Floyd Mayweather to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to serve as the honorary starter of the 92nd Indianapolis 500," said Joie Chitwood, IMS president and chief operating officer. "The speed, power and charisma that he has shown in the ring are a perfect match for the excitement of 'The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.'"

The race will be broadcast live at 1 p.m. ET on ABC Sports, the IMS Radio Network and XM Satellite Radio.

According to a representative for Scotland Yard, Amy Winehouse was arrested this afternoon (April 25) on suspicion of assault. The often troubled  24-year-old Grammy-winning artist voluntarily walked into a London police station for her interrogation.

The assault charge stems from a recent incident in the north London neighborhood of Camden earlier this week, when Winehouse allegedly punched a man in the street. Numerous other reports claim the singer allegedly head-butted another man who was trying to help her hail her a cab early Wednesday morning.

If convicted, Winehouse could be sentenced to six months behind bars.
